These terms apply to HERstory Night website visitors, ticket purchasers, attendees, applicants, and storytellers. By purchasing a ticket, submitting an application, or attending an event, you agree to these terms.
We may collect your name, email address, phone number, social media or website information, ticket details, application responses, accessibility requests, communication preferences, and event participation information.
Storyteller applications may contain personal or sensitive information voluntarily shared by the applicant. Please only provide information you are comfortable submitting for review.
Payments are processed by third-party providers such as Stripe. HERstory Night does not directly store complete credit-card information.
We use your information to:
Process tickets, payments, and applications
Communicate event details and important updates
Review and select storytellers
Provide event support and accommodations
Prevent fraud, abuse, or safety concerns
Maintain necessary financial and business records
Send marketing communications when you have chosen to receive them
We do not sell or rent personal information.
We may share limited information with service providers that help us operate our website, process payments, send communications, manage events, or comply with legal obligations. These providers maintain their own privacy policies.
Applications are reviewed only by HERstory Night team members and authorized selection-board members who need access for the review process.
If you are not selected, your application may remain active for up to one year so you can be considered for another HERstory Night without applying again. You may request its deletion sooner by contacting us, subject to records we are legally required to retain.
Applying does not guarantee selection. Application fees are non-refundable unless otherwise required by law.
If you answer an anonymous HERstory Night community question, your response may be displayed at an event, photographed, or shared through HERstory Night content without your name or contact information.
Please avoid including names or details that could identify you or another person. Although we will make reasonable efforts to keep the response anonymous, we cannot guarantee anonymity if the response itself contains identifying information.
Participation in the HERstory Night Human Library is optional. Your name, social handle, website, experience, or other profile information will only be included when you affirmatively choose to participate.
By opting in, you authorize HERstory Night to share the information identified for the Human Library. You may request removal by contacting us. HERstory does not control communications initiated by other participants after a connection is made.
HERstory Night is committed to creating a respectful environment. Attendees, storytellers, partners, vendors, volunteers, and guests may not engage in:
Hate speech, slurs, threats, intimidation, or demeaning conduct
Harassment, bullying, unwanted touching, or sexual misconduct
Discrimination based on race, color, religion, national origin, age, disability, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, or another protected characteristic
Deliberate disruption of a storyteller or event activity
Partisan campaigning, candidate promotion, political fundraising, political solicitation, or inflammatory political debate
Unauthorized sales, pitching, promotion, or solicitation
Recording, photographing, or livestreaming a storyteller without permission
Conduct that threatens another person’s safety, privacy, dignity, or ability to participate
A personal story may touch on culture, faith, identity, law, or civic life when those subjects are part of the storyteller’s lived experience. It may not be used to attack, recruit, campaign, or demean others.
HERstory Night may warn, refuse admission to, remove, or prohibit future attendance by anyone who violates these standards or creates a safety concern. Removal for a conduct violation will not result in a refund.
Storytellers must share their own experiences in their own words. By participating, a storyteller confirms that:
She has the right to share the submitted material
Her story does not knowingly include false, defamatory, threatening, unlawful, or confidential claims
She will respect the privacy of other people involved
She will not use the stage to sell, campaign, recruit, or promote a business, product, service, candidate, or political cause
She will follow the agreed time limit and reasonable event instructions
Storytellers retain ownership of their stories. HERstory Night does not receive permission to publish or distribute a storyteller’s full recorded story unless the storyteller provides separate media consent.
HERstory Night asks everyone to treat personal stories and conversations with care. However, the event takes place in a shared room, and HERstory Night cannot guarantee that another attendee will keep everything she hears confidential.
Share only what you are personally prepared to share in that setting. HERstory Night is not responsible for another participant’s unauthorized disclosure, recording, online post, or personal interpretation, but we may take appropriate action when a violation is reported.
HERstory Night may photograph or record general event scenes for documentation and promotion. Storyteller recording and identifiable close-up use will be governed by a separate media choice or release.
Attendees who do not want to appear in identifiable event media should contact HERstory Night before the event and notify the check-in team. We will make reasonable efforts to honor the request, but incidental appearance in wide crowd footage may not always be avoidable.
A ticket purchase alone does not authorize HERstory Night to publish a person’s private story or testimonial as an endorsement.
HERstory Night is a community storytelling event, not therapy, medical care, legal advice, crisis support, or professional counseling. Stories may address grief, relationships, health, trauma, identity, family, work, or other sensitive subjects.
Participants decide for themselves whether to attend, share, step out, or seek outside support. HERstory Night does not guarantee any particular emotional, personal, professional, or business outcome.
Participation in an in-person event involves ordinary risks, including travel, crowds, food or beverage exposure, emotional discomfort, and the actions of other attendees or third parties.
You remain responsible for your personal belongings, transportation, health needs, and decisions. To the fullest extent permitted by law, HERstory Night and its founders, team members, volunteers, sponsors, vendors, and venue partners are not responsible for indirect losses, lost or stolen property, or harm caused by another attendee or unaffiliated third party.
Nothing in these terms excludes responsibility that cannot legally be excluded, including responsibility for gross negligence or intentional misconduct where applicable.
Event dates, schedules, storytellers, activities, and venues may change when reasonably necessary. Ticket transfers, cancellations, credits, and refunds are governed by the refund policy shown at purchase. Nothing in these terms limits rights that cannot be waived under applicable law.
We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards to protect the information we collect. No website, email system, or electronic storage method can be guaranteed completely secure.
We retain information only as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described here, including event administration, application consideration, accounting, dispute resolution, safety, and legal compliance.
